The Jenny Joy Photography blog is turning one!

I can’t believe it but the Jenny Joy Photography Blog is going to turn one year old on Saturday, February 21st. To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to give away a complimentary portrait session. So, here’s the deal, send in your nominations for either yourself or on behalf of someone else that is celebrating a first. You should submit your nominations via email to jenny@jennyjoyphotography.com with the subject line reading, “Blog Contest”. Please include the name (first name only is fine) of the person you are nominating, what their “first” is, and why you want them to experience a custom portrait photography session.

Here are some ideas of a few different “firsts” to get you started but I encourage you to be creative and come up with your own as well.

  1. Child’s first birthday
  2. Pregnant with first child
  3. Adopting first child
  4. First wedding anniversary
  5. First time entering a blog contest
  6. Insert your creative “first” idea here!

You should feel free to nominate as many different people for as many different “firsts” that you can come up with. I will collect nominations starting today through the end of day on February 28th. The winner will be announced on my blog on March 1st. Good luck!

Oh yeah, here’s the fine print:
The prize is a complimentary portrait session. This includes the time and talent of the photographer only and does not include any photographic prints or products. Photographic prints and products may be purchased per Jenny Joy Photography’s 2009 price list. Portrait session must be completed by June 1, 2009. Portrait session accommodates up to five (5) people. Additional people may be added at a cost of $50 per person. The portrait session may be used to accommodate engagement, maternity, newborn, child, high school senior, or family portrait sessions. This session may not be applied to wedding commissions. Portrait session must be within the King, Snohomish, Pierce or Thurston county areas. Sessions that are scheduled for locations beyond these areas may incur an additional travel surcharge to be negotiated and approved at the time the session is scheduled.

Brennan is a senior at Auburn Riverside High School. I know his mom from the YMCA. She was my personal trainer and is the one that encouraged me to join the Tri Club. So, thanks to her I was able to compete in my first triathlon this year. It was when I shared the photos with her from my race that she found out that I was a photographer. I was honored when she contacted me to take photos of her son, Brennan. One of the reasons why she hired me was because I do all my work on location and based on past experience, she just didn’t feel like the studio experience would work for them.

It was great to meet Brennan. We spent an hour together at the park next to his school and he was a great sport. Despite the fact that he wasn’t that excited about the idea of having his picture taken, he hung in there with me and I think we were able to capture some nice shots. He even survived his two younger brothers crashing the party.

During the photos shoot, we even found out that we have something in common; water polo. As a matter of fact, he had to make his way to a match following our session. Let me know if you guys won, Brennan. In the meantime, take a look at a few shots from our session. Enjoy!

Last week I had an awesome time hanging out with my friend Darcy and her two daughters, Stephanie and Danielle. We’ve been trying to make something happen for quite a while but with the busyness of summer and the somewhat unpredictable weather, it seemed like it would never happen. Well finally last week we were able to connect and spend a few hours together on a nice sunny afternoon.

These girls are so much fun to hang out with and I love taking photos of them because they make my job so easy. First, they are just gorgeous, as is obvious from all of the photos I will share below. Really, in order to get good photos of them, I just need to make sure that I don’t mess up because they always look so beautiful. Secondly, they both have such great personalities and are just a lot of fun to hang out with. Consequently, I end up with a lot of really fun photos of them. I mean really, I should have warned you earlier but this post will involve more images than I’ve ever posted at once before. And believe it or not, I actually did restrain myself somewhat. I originally had a handful more that I wanted to post. It was just so difficult to choose.

I’m really hopeful that I’ll have many more opportunities to take more photos of them over the years. I think Stephanie is going to be a senior model for me and when Danielle is a little older, I hope that she too will be a senior model. As you’ll see from their photos, they certainly have the model part down.

Thanks Darcy, Stephanie and Danielle. I had a lot of fun tagging along with you guys last week and really hope you enjoy what we ended up with. Let me know what you think.

Considering that I’ve known Jordan since she was a fourth grader, I still can’t believe that she is now a beautiful young woman about to enter her senior year of high school. She and her family have have been good friends for the past eight years and I am so glad that we’ve been able to maintain our relationship even though we no longer live near each other. I was excited to have the opportunity to spend an hour together taking some photos of Jordan and her friend Jeff. They wanted to hang out at Hidden Valley Sports Park in Bellevue and allowed me to tag along and capture some fun shots of them before they start their senior year of high school.

After seeing all of the fun shots we were able to capture, I really wish I had the opportunity to give them a full senior portrait session at multiple locations. They are a lot of fun and any photographer would be lucky to hang out with them and capture their personalities in multiple situations.

As you can see, Jordan is absolutely beautiful and Jeff is a handsome young man. I’m sure their parents are very proud of them and are anxious to enjoy all of the milestones that they will experience their last year of high school.

Here are a few shots from our time together. I’m excited for Jordan and Jeff to see the rest and who knows, maybe I’ll even have the chance to get some good action shots of Jordan during the track season and Jeff during the baseball season. Thanks again Jordan and Jeff for letting me photograph you guys. I hope you like enough of these images that we can put together a cool video slideshow that you can upload to your iPod or post to your My Space or Facebook profiles. Enjoy!

So, as promised, I wanted to share just a few photos from a fun session I did last week with a very beautiful and talented 8th (soon to be 9th) grader. Talk about a sweetheart. I had so much fun meeting Alexz and hanging out with her at her house. We were hoping that the weather was going to cooperate so that we could benefit from the gorgeous lake front location but unfortunately, the heavens were open and the rain kept us inside. Regardless, we were able to capture some very nice images that show off her personality. I know that after seeing these images, everyone is going to run out to their local salon and request the “bangs you love to hate” as Alexz referred to them.

Check these out. Isn’t she gorgeous?

Today I had the opportunity to do a morning photo session with the Olsen family. What beautiful girls! They were a photographer’s dream come true. Unfortunately, I had the humbling experience of filling up my memory card and being caught without my spare. Oops! Of course this happened right when we were getting in to a groove with shots of the girls. I promise I’ll make it up to you guys.

I thought I would post just a few samples from today’s session before heading out the door to celebrate our friend Carsen’s 5th birthday party. The only problem is when I looked at all the photos I captured during today’s session, there were way too many excellent ones to choose from. Hopefully, this small sample will tide you over for now.

Brett, Darcy, Stephanie and Danielle – thank you so much for inviting me in to your home this morning. I had a great time and am really excited to share all of the photos with you. Stay tuned. I hope to have them uploaded for your review in the next few days.
