The Jenny Joy Photography blog is turning one!

I can’t believe it but the Jenny Joy Photography Blog is going to turn one year old on Saturday, February 21st. To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to give away a complimentary portrait session. So, here’s the deal, send in your nominations for either yourself or on behalf of someone else that is celebrating a first. You should submit your nominations via email to jenny@jennyjoyphotography.com with the subject line reading, “Blog Contest”. Please include the name (first name only is fine) of the person you are nominating, what their “first” is, and why you want them to experience a custom portrait photography session.

Here are some ideas of a few different “firsts” to get you started but I encourage you to be creative and come up with your own as well.

  1. Child’s first birthday
  2. Pregnant with first child
  3. Adopting first child
  4. First wedding anniversary
  5. First time entering a blog contest
  6. Insert your creative “first” idea here!

You should feel free to nominate as many different people for as many different “firsts” that you can come up with. I will collect nominations starting today through the end of day on February 28th. The winner will be announced on my blog on March 1st. Good luck!

Oh yeah, here’s the fine print:
The prize is a complimentary portrait session. This includes the time and talent of the photographer only and does not include any photographic prints or products. Photographic prints and products may be purchased per Jenny Joy Photography’s 2009 price list. Portrait session must be completed by June 1, 2009. Portrait session accommodates up to five (5) people. Additional people may be added at a cost of $50 per person. The portrait session may be used to accommodate engagement, maternity, newborn, child, high school senior, or family portrait sessions. This session may not be applied to wedding commissions. Portrait session must be within the King, Snohomish, Pierce or Thurston county areas. Sessions that are scheduled for locations beyond these areas may incur an additional travel surcharge to be negotiated and approved at the time the session is scheduled.

You may remember the maternity photography that I did for Katie and Jason last October. Well, they proudly introduced their little girl to the world just a couple of weeks ago so I spent some time with them this past weekend capturing some newborn photos. Baby Alivia is just darling and it was so fun to see how Katie and Jason have settled in to life as new parents. As beautiful as Katie was as an expectant mother, it can’t compare to how beautiful she is when she is cuddling her newborn daughter in her arms. As excited and as proud as Jason may have been when I photographed him with his pregnant wife, it doesn’t compare to how proud he looked sitting next to his wife and kissing his precious little girl on her head.

Congratulations to you both. I am very happy for you and appreciate you inviting me in to your home to take photos of Alivia.

Please enjoy this sneak peek into their newborn session. And I would love to hear from you so please leave a comment to congratulate Katie and Jason.

Despite the fact that I haven’t gotten back on my regular blog posting schedule I’m still around. I have a lot to catch up on from a blogging perspective but I’ve been focused on going through my year end financials (sounds fun doesn’t it) so that I can complete my tax paperwork. That way I’ll be able to pass along the sales taxes that I collected last year on behalf of the Department of Revenue. The glass is half full perspective on this is that it has served to reinforce those areas of the business that I enjoy the most. Let’s just say I prefer working with clients and doing photo sessions much more than this aspect of running a business.

I miss you all though and plan to get back on my blogging horse by next week.

And, I just got the good news today from my client Katie that she and her husband are now the proud parents of a little girl. I had the privilege of doing a
maternity photography session for them back in November. I can’t wait until I get to meet their little girl and I’m excited to share her pictures with you all. Congratulations to Katie and Jason! And stay tuned for photos of their little girl.

I was contacted by Katie earlier this summer with the news that she and her husband were expecting their first child and wanted to have some portraits done at their home when it was a little closer to her due date. Being a mother of three children I am always excited to meet expectant mothers and vicariously re-live all of the things that go along with anticipating the birth of a first child. Consequently, it was really difficult to wait for October to get here so that I could meet them both in person and capture this special time in their lives.

They are a very sweet couple and I had a lot of fun spending some time with them last weekend. Similar to how my husband and I did it, they will soon be making the transition from being “parents” to two dogs to becoming mommy and daddy to a little precious one. As if the day of the birth isn’t exciting enough, Jason and Katie will have to wait to find out whether they are having a son or a daughter because the baby has not been very cooperative during the ultrasounds. Regardless, Jason and Katie have managed to put together a darling nursery that any little boy or girl will enjoy.

Here are just a few shots from our time together hanging out in the nursery.

Jason and Katie, congratulations to you both again and I can’t wait to meet your little guy/girl when he/she arrives.

I had the honor of hanging out with Elise last Thursday and capturing a few shots of her while she’s pregnant with her third child. Elise is one of the fellow photographers that I met during my “Girl Photographers Rock Seattle” session in the International District of Seattle. She’s a beautiful and talented mother and it turns out we have a lot in common. Not to mention, we’re practically neighbors. I had so much fun hanging out with her and her two darling little kids and we spent more time talking and just hanging out than we did taking photos. But that was fine by me because I really enjoy her company (and her chicken nuggets). Thanks for feeding us, Elise;-)

Below are a few of the photos I captured during my time hanging out at her place. Also, be sure to check out Elise’s Web site where you can see some of the fantastic work that she does.

This morning before church I was fortunate enough to be invited into the home of a wonderful family to do a portrait session. Todd and Kristy are getting ready to welcome a baby brother for their beautiful daughter Abby and wanted to capture what they look like as a family of three before the new addition arrives.

Given that Kristy is an interior designer, it’s no wonder that their home was beautifully decorated. If you are in need of an interior design consultation, be sure to contact Kristy. Trust me, she’s wonderful.

I had a lot of fun capturing some great images of the three of them. They are a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to getting our families together sometime soon to fire up the BBQ and get to know each other better. The three of them make such a great looking family, I can’t wait to see how the arrival of their new son adds to the mix. Thanks to Todd, Kristy and Abby for allowing me to invade your space this morning and enjoy your company for an hour.

Here are just a few samples from our session. I hope you enjoy!
